Ilford XP2
Black and white film that develops in color chemistry. Drop it at any one hour lab. The negatives come out monochrome with a huge exposure range.
How it behaves
Rate it anywhere from 200 to 800 on the same roll and it still works. The range widens to 50 to 800 on the same roll. Grain is smooth, almost invisible. Contrast is soft. It is perfect for travel when you cannot develop yourself. Any minilab that does C-41 can develop it, since XP2 is a chromogenic film: dye clouds instead of silver grain.
Questions people ask
Can XP2 Super be developed at a color lab?
Yes. It processes in standard C-41 color chemistry. That is the whole point of a chromogenic film.
Can you change ISO mid-roll with XP2?
Yes, within limits. 200 to 800 on the same roll still works, and the full range runs 50 to 800.
Is XP2 Super good for travel?
Yes. Travel and street are its listed strengths, and anyone without black and white lab access can drop it at any C-41 lab.
