Kodak Gold 400
01A
Frame 1 of 9
Kodak Gold 400
The faster Gold. More speed, more grain, and the same warm consumer look. The roll below was past its date, and it shows: fog, leaks, and color fields where frames should be.
How it behaves
Fresh, it is good for overcast days and indoor window light. Grain shows more than Gold 200, which suits the look. Bright, clean, poppy colors, fine grain for a 400-speed consumer film, and wide latitude, usable from two stops under to three stops over. This particular roll was expired, so judge the fresh stock by the ratings, and this set by what age does to it.
Questions people ask
Kodak Gold 400 or Gold 200?
Gold 400 gives more speed for overcast days and indoor window light. Gold 200 shows less grain. Both keep the warm Gold look.
Is Kodak Gold 400 good for flash and travel?
Yes. All-purpose daylight and flash shooting, travel, and everyday carry are its listed best uses.
Is Kodak Gold 400 the same emulsion as UltraMax 400?
The research traces the name from Kodacolor Gold 400 to Gold 400 in 1997 and then UltraMax 400 in 2007, and notes Kodak lists the current GC/UltraMax 400 model as Gold 400.
Why does this set look fogged?
This roll was past its date. Age fog and light leaks ate most of it, which is its own kind of record.
