Agfa 400 Expired
The faster sibling of Agfa 200. Same story: discontinued, expired, unpredictable. The extra speed helps if the roll has lost sensitivity.
How it behaves
Discontinued and aging. Rate it a stop slower than box speed to compensate. The research gives a standard starting point of about one stop per decade past expiry, and notes many expired-400 shooters rate it at EI 200. Colors will shift and grain will grow. Results depend on age and storage, so buy cold-stored when possible. Fresh, it had classic warm European color rendering. Expired, expect softer contrast, color shifts, and possible fog. The Agfa name covered several ISO 400 variants, including HDC 400, Vista 400, and Optima 400. Treat listings as generic Agfa consumer 400. These frames are half-frame pairs.
